Floyd County Sheriff's Department Installs New Training Simulator
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department has installed one of the most advanced training systems to educate and train patrol officers. The new system trains officers in making the decision whether to shoot or don’t shoot. This advanced system will train officers by placing them in virtual realistic real-life scenarios such as traffic stops, so when officers hit the streets they can better react to whatever situation might come their way. Of course the system has no real ammunition, but the system does allows the officer to use such weapons as a handgun and pepper spray, and has a return fire option that shoots rubber balls at the officer, making the training as close as it gets to the real situations they may face on the street. This $90,000 system has put Floyd County on the map for advanced training systems that has other local departments contacting Floyd County to seek use of the system and training.
For more information and interviews from Floyd County Officers on this new system see the video featured at the bottom of this article.
